Human-relevant models
We work with 3D human brain systems where neurons, astrocytes, and microglia can interact — so readouts stay closer to people than mouse models or isolated cell lines.
Predictive preclinical platform for neurodegeneration
The question every program has to answer
Is this target or treatment likely enough to work? And what evidence supports advancing it?
Why AE exists
Neurodegeneration research has produced a rich set of hypotheses. AE exists to help decide, early, which of them will translate to humans — while the choice is still cheap.
We work with 3D human brain systems where neurons, astrocytes, and microglia can interact — so readouts stay closer to people than mouse models or isolated cell lines.
We measure shifts across inflammatory, metabolic, gene-regulatory, and cellular states — the way disease actually shows up, not a single protein switch.
We ask whether an intervention reversed abnormal biology, so programs can be compared on the same human-relevant measure while there is still time to choose.
The platform
AE combines advanced human brain models with cell-resolved measurement and computational analysis into one loop — designed to answer, repeatedly and at scale, whether a given intervention rescues disease biology.
Working with leading academic and commercial groups, AE uses 3D human brain models — organoids containing interacting astrocytes and neurons, and where possible microglia — rather than building every model in-house.
Spatial transcriptomics, cell-resolved sequencing, proteomics, and high-resolution imaging reveal which cellular changes genuinely track disease, ageing, and treatment response — not just which ones correlate.
Discovery happens in biologically rich 3D models; the key readouts are then transferred into faster 2D astrocyte and co-culture assays for higher-throughput screening — with promising hits returned to richer systems for confirmation.
Where we start
Astrocytes show ageing- and disease-associated changes that may precede or drive neuronal dysfunction. They’re AE’s first proving ground: narrow enough to validate the platform’s biology, broad enough to generalize from. Alzheimer’s, APOE4, and neuroinflammation are early use cases, not permanent boundaries.
Longitudinal treatment-response data, a benchmark across human brain models, cell-specific biomarker panels, and a validated 3D-to-2D workflow — combined into predictions that help partners choose which targets and interventions to advance.
A parallel program explores whether restoring ageing-related nuclear structure — speckles, paraspeckles, and related condensates — can address cellular decline upstream of classical protein aggregates. Early-stage and hypothesis-driven.
Who we work with
For teams deciding whether they’ve backed the right target, AE runs collaborative pilots: adding characterization and readouts to your model or intervention and measuring whether the phenotype is rescued.
Compare candidates on a consistent, human-relevant measurement basis instead of across inconsistent cell models — and see the evidence that supports advancing one over another.
Translate discoveries into development-ready assays, and put sophisticated brain models to work against real drug-development questions.
AE is a hybrid platform-and-therapeutics company at the platform-definition stage, pursuing a grant-first, partnership-driven path.
Our near-term goal isn’t a drug candidate. It’s proof that our models and readouts make better decisions than the methods used today.
Comparable platforms took years to accumulate meaningful data. We’re building deliberately — validating the biology, the assays, and the predictions before scaling them.
